DATEDEC 13, 2021
Pop the champagne, turn Mariah all the way up and get yourselves ready because Christmas is well and truly upon us!
Whether you are a seasoned entertainer or new to the hosting game, we have the perfect tips to help you throw a gorgeous Christmas lunch or dinner.
Let’s start with the setting…
For Christmas this year, we are going chic! Say goodbye to tinsel and baubles and hello to colourful florals, wooden accents and stylish place settings. Why not treat your guests to a hostess gift with a box of our incense or essential oils? Not only do they look great on the table, but you can also choose different scents, personalising the gifts to match your guests taste.
For flowers, opt for bunches of natives - gum and eucalyptus help to add height to your table, while bright red pin cushions add a pop of festive colour! Mix and match your vases for an eclectic flare but make sure to think strategically about where you place them so that no one is hidden!
Of course, no table is complete without some candles! We love dotting around our elemental range - the beautifully coloured glass helps to add contrast and texture, while the stunning scents of citrus, cedarwood and moss linger through the air, inviting your guests to engage all of their senses.
A cocktail upon arrival is always sure to set the festive mood and get the conversation flowing!
While a spritz is always fun, why not go a bit more ‘boujee’ with a Spiced Christmas Negroni? Influenced by our Symphony of Scent Composition III in Spice, decorate your bar with cinnamon quills, cloves, star anise and dried fruits and then elevate the scene with our Emerson Black Marble Incense Holder and Bailey White Resin Plate.
Ingredients (makes one)
30ml Red Vermouth
30ml Citrus Gin
1 x Cinnamon Quill
2 x Star Anise
Small sprinkle of cloves
Dried orange and additional spices to garnish
- Place spices in a saucepan over medium heat and toast for 1-2 minutes to release aromas.
- Add the gin, vermouth and Campari into a 500ml jar with the toasted spices and allow to infuse.
- Strain through a sieve and into a glass with ice. Stir with a cinnamon quill and then garnish with your dried orange and additional spices.
Now, onto the main event… the food!
Will the cheeseboard ever go out of style?
Certainly not on our watch! Equal parts delicious and aesthetically pleasing, a cheeseboard is a non-negotiable. To prevent your guests from filling up too much before the main event, we like to keep it simple with two cheeses (one hard and one soft), some olives, grapes, crackers and caperberries. Try to add height on the board with different stands and bowls and make sure to balance the colours equally.
*Hot tip: Add honeycomb on top of your brie when it is cold out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature before your guests arrive. The result will be a wonderfully gooey mess!
Inspired by our PLAY Essential Oil Trio, create a zesty superfood salad with explosions of mandarin, lime and orange.
Salad Ingredients (measure with your heart and stomach)
1 x bunch of kale (washed and roughly chopped)
1 x bunch of mint leaves (washed and roughly chopped)
1 x handful slivered almonds
1 x handful dried cranberries
1 x mandarin (peeled and broken into segments)
1 x orange (skin removed and sliced into small wedges)
Zest of one lime
Juice of half a lemon
Squeeze of orange juice
Squeeze of lime juice
Oil from goats cheese
Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Mix all of the salad ingredients together in a big bowl, keeping a few segments of mandarin and slices of orange spare to decorate
- Place dressing ingredients into a jar with a lid and shake to combine
- Drizzle the dressing over the salad and then transfer to your serving bowl
- Layer your mandarin and orange on top of the salad and sprinkle over some more goats cheese
No meal is complete without dessert! With many of our candles and essential oils featuring the zestiness of citrus fruits, this year we are opting for a deliciously fresh lemon tart. This one from recipetineats is sure to impress - cover it in cherries, raspberries and blueberries for the perfect finish to your Christmas celebrations.
